Good info Rick. I wonder if you got the CC email I send to DJI’s Director of Communications about setting up a program to notify us via email about Drone UpDates?

Well I gotta admit I’m disappointed to see this video. I was hoping your absence the last couple of weeks was because DJI sent you a Mavic Pro 2 and you were out testing it for us. Oh well, here’s hoping that happens soon…. Oh! And sorry to hear you’ve been sick!

Rick, WOW! I did not expect such a quick response to my earlier comment about receiving the wrong item. Especially with you being sick. You have GREAT customer service and I feel confident in buying anything from Drone Valley. Thanks again.

Nice video Rick.. I installed an AmpliFi (Ubiquity) mesh network about a year ago in my home and have been extremely pleased. (Amplifi.com) You might want to consider this system as you review Mesh networks. George in FL.

Hi Rick – awesome informative video. The background you have up did you no justice though. Didn’t put you in the best look…IMO

I know America is a big country, but I didn’t realise that each state has different drone regulations. I’ve heard of the FFA just like our CAA in the UK. In the UK, which is four different countries the regulations are the same. However, in Europe each country have different regulations. I’m British but I’m flying in Spain at present, they have stricter regulations about flying drones than UK. By the way the 5-1 readers have been out for years. I bought one 4 years.

Hi Rick, great & thorough information as usual, thank you! One video I came across regarding DJI is the release of the Phantom 4 RTK, here is the link to Bill the Drone Reviewer and his findings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPElRld2NA0. I’ll be looking forward to further reviews on network mesh systems. At present, I use a Netgear Nighthawk X6S (Tri-Mode) which works extremely will and covers a majority of our 2400 sq.ft. home, just slow at the furthermost part of house; from the router. Regarding the Alliance, I totally agree with the different Agencies flexing the power over control of air space! Very cool card reader too! Again, thank for all the new information!

Thanks Rick! Hope and pray you get well soonest. We know how that goes.

A little off subject, but good info. As of now, the CrystalSky does NOT work with the Mavic Air. I got this from DJI directly. I checked it out because a blogger said he did use it.

Looks like you’re on the mend. Thanks for another informative and well-done video.

The rumor for Apple’s AirPort product line is that the team has been reassigned to other projects and the product line will likely be discontinued. AirPort products haven’t been updated in a long time, though there was a firmware update a few months ago. Apple likes to participate in spaces where it can be “disruptive.” My guess is that Apple believes wifi is being adequately handled by other companies. (I was at Macworld New York in ’99 when the very first AirPort product was introduced.)

I have a ranch that is about 1 mile from a small rural airport. They get about 1-2 planes that land in a week.
I have been thinking about getting a DJI drone to fly over my property about 150′ above the trees to check on my cattle. Being so close to the airport will the software let me do that or will it give me a warning or will it just not let me take off?
My flying would be away from the airport.

Missed you Rick! Glad you’re feeling better. It’s funny about that Zenmuse, I’m actually working on a DIY thermal solution for the Mavic Pro that overlays thermal onto an optical feed. It won’t be as good as their’s!! But then, it’ll only be £300-£400 🙂 Not sure about that gadget, Rick – so above and beyond a simple card reader (that have been around for a while) it allows you to view your footage without having to transfer it, well, OK, but if you cache your drone footage, as I do, then you can watch it on your phone, and my DSLR can review recorded footage from the camera, so too on my Gear360 via bluetooth to my phone. Maybe useful to others. Welcome back, sir 🙂

Hope you feel better soon Rick. Glad to see you back on the air. I’m also happy to hear you talk about all the crazy drone regulations each jurisdiction has. I live in New York, so we’re neighbors. And I feel your pain about the patchwork of drone regulations out there. Here in New York City, where I’m at, is really crazy. I just purchased my very first high-end drone, the Dji Mavic Air, and I was exited to go out and fly it yesterday, so I decided to go to my local park, in Manhattan, and try and fly my Mavic, I only managed to make it to the park, before two nice park police officers, walked up to me and told me that I couldn’t fly in that park, or anywhere in the county of Manhattan, needless to say, I was disapointed, and pissed at the same time.

So, here I was with a brand new drone, that I couldn’t fly anywhere near where I lived. I’m thinking, I just bought a brand new $1000 dollar paperweight. But the park police officers did tell me that I could fly my drone only in some parks in Brooklyn or Queens. Apparently, those counties are the only legal places to fly drones in NYC. So I was determined to fly my new drone, so I woke up early this morning to go out there to one of those parks, and fly my Mavic Air. I decided to do some more research, to find out exactly what are the regulations in NYC. Come to find out, one of the parks that allow drone flying in BK, you have to be a member of the Seaview Rotary Wings, that the organization that fly’s model helicopters in that area of the park.

So to make a long story short, I ended up going to another park in Queens. It took me an hour and a half, to make it out there on the train, but I finally got to fly my Mac Air. I loved it. But the park where I went that allows drone flying, is not too far away from Laguardia airport and Kennedy airport. There was a lot of magnetic interference with the controller for my Mavic Air. I only managed to fly the drone for about 2000 feet distance, before I lost signal and the drone return to home. Don’t ask me why they decided to designate that small area of the park to allow drone flying, being that is that close those to major airports.

Needless to say, my drone flying experience was deflated by the extremes and hoops that I had to jump through just to be able to enjoy my hobby. Is like you mentioned, if people have all these suffocating regulations that make it next to impossible to enjoy your hobby, they will eventually just give up. I think that is the intent of all these burdensome regulations and laws when it comes to drones. We need a voice that spaeks for us drone hobbiest.

Worried that with all the changes people have been commenting on about YouTube that maybe you were throwing in the towel. I am glad to see that is not true. The card transfer gadget you reviewed sounds great and I will definitely check this out. Keep up the good work—I will be watching.

Hey Rick, thanks for posting. Just a thought, I sure hope the respective fish and game departments address this new technology. I GUARANTEE there will be a select few hunters who will use this technology in an unethical way to gain any advantage they can over their target. This needs to be addressed NOW not later! BTW, if I’m out hunting and happen to encounter a drone “scouting “ in my area, it will very quickly develop functionality problems.

Rick, have you ever had any Flyways with any of your Drones? Because I’m hearing a lot of people having Flyways with the Mavic Air. And I would like to buy one but I’m hesitant about the Flyways.

My concern with a wifi mesh is most all these RF signals we’re using, like cell phones and wifi, are a harmonic or sub harmonic of our brain’s working frequency (7.83 Hz, same as the Earth’s resonant frequency (Schumann Resonance)). The more RF you have flying around your house the harder it is to concentrate, the harder it is to sleep, and may be causing brain cancer. — You can already watch your latest DJI drone videos in DJI Go app. They are lower resolution than what’s on the SD card but look about as good on a phone or tablet as the full size video.

I can’t agree with you more about the Z-XT2 FLIR, Rick
My cousin, a township fire chief, is excited about these applications you have described. Here’s what it means to hobbyists and commercial drone pilots: Re-training a First Responder as a pilot is a mismanagement of highly trained and specialized personnel. The Chief tells me he would rather utilize an auxiliary of citizen volunteers who would be on-call for emergency response. That means there will shortly be the opportunity for people like you and me to serve our communities in time of need. State and federal funding is being made available and soon DJI and other equipment providers will work with first responders and qualified UAS pilots on projects of this kind. I’m very excited.

Who controls the airspace? The FAA or the local municipalities. Drones are classified as aircraft. I am a pilot. Last I checked the locals can’t control the airspace or aircraft flying in them. Can my city say no to American Airlines flying at 32,000′? If I am flying within the FAA guidelines and laws then I should be protected the same as any other air service. I don’t think locals have the authority to trump FAA. Yes I should be responsible for my actions just as any other aircraft is within the FAA. As for privacy. What about the satellites flying in space taking pictures of my house and yard? Can I sue Google Maps?

Because of this vlog I’ve begun to research mesh networks. I still have a lot of questions about issues I do not understand. May I email you personally with my questions? I cannot clearly ask my question here, because I would need to upload a few screenshots about my current Airport Extreme setup.

Got my card reader…NOTE: if you have a large case on your iPhone/iPad you’ll need a lightning connector extender. Not all extenders bring all 8 pins out so many don’t work with the reader. I found one on Amazon that does : Lightning Extender,8 Pin Extender, 8 Pin Dock Extender For,Dock For Lifeproof Otterbox C… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078L8MH4H/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_tai_i_z1B7Ab
This way you don’t have to remove your case…

Hi Rick, I received my Dr Memory USB the other day, I am rocking a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, is there a particular app you would recommend I use ?
I have tried quite a few android apps and nothing seems to work, I have tried it with my i pad mini 4 (128) which has nothing on it except the DJI go 4 app as it is my dedicated tablet for my P4Pro, I have downloaded the apple iUSB app only to find it buffers every four to five seconds and is not watchable, any ideas ?
    Cheers
